How To Look Less Tired
Find Out How To Look Fresher and More Awake at CJA Aesthetics Clinics in Hampshire
It can be so disheartening to hear the phrase “you look tired”, especially if you aren’t actually feeling that exhausted. Researchers have found that people who appear tired are more likely to be perceived as unhealthy, which in turn impacts on how others interact with us.
If you find yourself asking “why do I look tired all the time?” CJA Aesthetics Clinics in Hampshire are here to help. We have a range of non-surgical solutions to brighten your eyes and freshen up your skin, helping you look not only more awake, but more youthful too.
In this article we discuss the tell-tale signs of tiredness on your face, and some easy quick fixes, as well as your options for aesthetics treatments for tired eyes and solutions for dull skin.
Signs That Your Skin is Tired
There’s an unmistakable too-little-sleep look that we probably all recognise – especially when we’ve pulled an all-nighter or tossed and turned until dawn. Eyes are a key give-away, with their dark circles, puffy lower lids, crows-feet wrinkles and sagging upper eyelids. Looking tired is in fact a combination of the many ways that fatigue impacts on our bodies. A key factor is the effects of the dehydration our skin endures if we are lacking in sleep.
Prevention is Better than Cure
It’s an old adage but when it comes to looking tired it’s certainly true. There are some simple steps you can take to minimise the problem of your skin looking so fatigued and protect the sensitive area around your eyes.
Stay Hydrated
Contrary to popular belief, the darker pigmentation beneath your eyes doesn’t get more intense when you are tired. It simply look darker because tiredness is often associated with dehydration, which allows the dark circles to show through. Likewise, puffiness around the eyes is caused by tired skin retaining water in an effort to keep the skin hydrated.
The solution? Keep a large glass of water by your bed and drink half of it at bed time and half in the morning to ensure you stay hydrated. Ensure you drink around 8 glasses of water over the course of the day (the exact amount needed will depend on your height, weight and activity levels). Reduce your alcohol and salt intake too to contribute to healthy looking skin texture around the eyes too.
Improve Your Sleep Routine
Getting more sleep is an obvious one if you want to look less tired. Take steps to get into a regular bedtime routine, aiming for between 7 and 9 hours a night. Experts recommend that, hard as it might be, you try and wake up early at the weekends rather than lying in as the body benefits from a regular sleep routine.
If you’re having trouble sleeping due to stress and anxiety, seek advice on dealing with this. A reduction in stress levels will also naturally reduce the signs of fatigue on your face.
Think About the Impact of Sunlight on Your Skin
Grey wintery weather can have the effect of making us look more sallow and tired than we really are. The summer months and sunshine brighten the look of your skin, making you look more awake. Sunshine also gives us a much needed boost to our Vitamin D levels. Lack of Vitamin D can make us feel lethargic and contribute to dark circles and puffy eyes. While sunshine has its benefits in terms of our wellbeing, always remember to protect your skin with broad spectrum UV protection and shield your eyes with sunglasses.
Quick fixes for Puffy Eyes
Puffy eyes can be a worry when you wake up, but morning puffiness will usually disappear quickly as you move your eyelids, which will help to reabsorb any the fluid build-up around the lids.
If you still need a little help, there are some quick fixes for puffy eyes that you could try to temporarily refresh the eye area. These include the use of cucumber slices, potato, milk, caffeinated teabags and the cold spoons on the eyelids. These techniques are designed to restrict the blood flow around the which reduces puffiness and gives a lighter appearance around the eye. The results are only temporary and won’t last long though.
Non-Surgical Solutions for Tired Looking Skin
There are numerous makeup products and concealers available to counteract tired looking skin, including those with orange and peach tones designed to counteract the bluey purple of dark circles under the eyes. The fact remains, however, that tired looking skin is difficult to cover up.
Skin Care Products to Brighten the Skin
You could try a good quality skin care cream to brighten dull and tired looking skin. The build up of dead skin cells becomes a bigger problem if you’ve had insufficient sleep for the body’s natural regeneration processes to occur. At CJA Aesthetics we can offer prescription only skin care products, including SkinCeuticals Retinol which works at a deeper level than traditional exfoliators to clear away skin surface cells and make way for new fresh cells to come to the surface.
Chemical Peels
Modern chemical peels are an effective treatment to soften fine lines and wrinkles and improve the overall tone and texture of your skin. At CJA Aesthetics we work with two leading chemical peels, Enerpeel and The Perfect Peel, both of which will have a lightening and brightening effect on tired looking skin.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers can be used in a subtle way to restore volume loss in the face, including around the tear troughs of tired looking eyes, rejuvenating and refreshing the area. Elsewhere on the face they can be used to enhance the cheek bones, on the forehead, temples and brows to give an instant lifting effect and younger, fresher appearance.
Anti-Wrinkle Treatments
Tiredness can lead to an increase in “crows-feet” or fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes. Book a consultation with Dr Chris Airey at CJA Aesthetics to discuss our anti-wrinkle treatments, which include Botox®.
The aim of our treatments is to make you look well rested and more youthful, while maintaining a natural appearance.
