How does Profhilo work?

During a Profhilo treatment, ultra-pure hyaluronic acid is precisely injected into the area being treated.  Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of the skin, which is important for hydration, but as we get older, our bodies produce less of it.  Profhilo uses a stabilised hyaluronic acid gel which stimulates the skin's natural production of collagen and elastin, attracting water into the deeper layers of the skin, thus resulting in significant improvements to the surrounding tissues in terms of tone, texture, hydration and overall radiance.

Is Profhilo better than Botox?

Other than the fact that they are both administered by injection, Profhilo and Botox are completely different treatments and cannot be compared.

Is a Profhilo treatment painful?

Most patients do not to report any major discomfort during the procedure. Prior to your treatment we can apply some numbing cream to the treatment area if you wish.
The needle used is very fine, but you may experience a pin prick and slight stinging sensation as the Profhilo gel enters the skin.

Are there any side effects to a Profhilo treatment?

The skin usually recovers within a few hours of treatment.  Initially, for about 3 to 4 hours after the procedure, you may notice small bumps where you’ve been injected and the hyaluronic acid has not yet fully dispersed into your skin.

You may also experience some redness, bruising or tenderness at the injection site, as is the case for all injectable treatments. This will usually clear within 24 hours.

What is the aftercare advice for Profhilo?

You can normally resume usual activities immediately although you should avoid the following:

  • swimming - avoid for 48 hours
  • massaging the area - avoid for 24 hours
  • extreme temperatures - avoid for 7 days
